Master of social work student intern - generalist

Shalina Covington

I believe that every child and family deserves to feel supported, understood, and empowered, and that meaningful growth happens when individuals are met with compassion, education, and strengths-based support.

Hello, I’m Shalina!

Hi! My name is Shalina Covington, and I am currently a Master of Social Work student here at Therapy by the Bay. I graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology in March of 2024.

I am currently in my generalist year of internship, meaning I cannot provide therapy. During this time, you may hear from me or see me supporting the practice in various ways. However, I will be accepting clients in my clinical internship year beginning May 25, 2026.

My background & approach

I am currently working as an Exceptional Student Education (ESE) teacher and have previously served as a K–12 substitute teacher, experiences that have strengthened my commitment to supporting individuals across the lifespan, with a particular passion for working with children, adolescents, and families. I chose social work because I am deeply dedicated to empowering individuals through education, meaningful support, and access to resources, while also contributing to the strengthening of families and communities. My professional interests include school-based and community-based social work, supporting the social-emotional development of children and adolescents, and fostering positive, growth-oriented relationships through a strengths-based approach. Outside of my professional work, I enjoy spending time at the beach, traveling, and exploring new food experiences.
