Master of Science in Marriage and Family therapy - clinical student intern

Justine Bumpers

I believe couples and families get stuck in cycles that feel impossible to break — and with the right support, those cycles can shift.

Hey there! I’m Justine.

Hi! My name is Justine Bumpers, and I am currently a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy student completing my clinical internship here at Therapy by the Bay. I earned my Master of Fine Arts from Florida State University and am currently completing my M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University, where I am an honors student.

As a Marriage and Family Therapy intern, I provide therapy under supervision as part of my clinical training. I work with individuals, couples, and families who may be feeling stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward. Whether you’re navigating relationship conflict, communication breakdowns, parenting stress, identity shifts, or major life transitions, my goal is to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported.

My Background & Approach

You might be feeling like you and your partner keep having the same argument on repeat.
You may feel unseen in your family, stretched thin as a parent, or unsure how to balance your needs with everyone else’s.
Maybe you’re going through a transition — blending families, redefining your role, questioning your identity, or trying to repair something that feels fragile.

Before entering the therapy field, I spent over a decade as a wedding and family photographer. I witnessed the beauty and the complexity of relationships up close — the joy, the tension, the unspoken dynamics, and the ways families evolve over time. That experience sharpened my ability to notice relational patterns and hold space during emotionally meaningful moments.

I also worked for several years as a nanny with families from diverse backgrounds. This gave me real-world insight into parenting stress, shifting marital dynamics, cultural expectations, and the pressure many families carry behind closed doors. I understand how easy it is to feel overwhelmed or disconnected — and how hard it can be to ask for support.

My approach is grounded in systemic and relational theories, which means we will look at the bigger picture — not just individual symptoms, but the patterns, roles, and communication dynamics shaping your experience. I value cultural humility, emotional safety, and deep listening. Even in difficult conversations, my intention is to help you feel steady and supported rather than judged or blamed.

Therapy can be a place to slow down, untangle what feels complicated, and begin shifting patterns that no longer serve you. I would be honored to walk alongside you in that process.

Outside of my professional work, I enjoy creative expression and meaningful connection with the people in my life.
