Master of Science in Counseling - Clinical student intern

I believe healing starts when people feel genuinely seen for what they are carrying — not minimized, dismissed, or oversimplified.

Hi, I’m Therese Janus, and I am currently a Master of Science in Counseling student completing my clinical internship. I provide therapy under supervision as part of my training, and I am deeply committed to creating a space where clients feel genuinely heard, believed, and understood.

If you’ve ever felt dismissed by doctors…
If you’ve been told to “just lose weight,” “drink more water,” or “try yoga”…
If your body has changed in ways that feel isolating or frightening…
Or if aging has left you feeling forgotten by family or society…

You are not alone here.

My Background & Approach

My clinical interests are centered around working with older adults, individuals living with chronic illness or disability, and those who have experienced medical invalidation trauma. Many of my clients carry not only physical symptoms, but also grief, anger, loneliness, and exhaustion from not being taken seriously.

I approach therapy with deep empathy and patience. I understand that when someone has felt minimized or dismissed, rebuilding trust takes time. My goal is not to offer quick fixes or surface-level advice — it is to sit with you, understand your lived experience, and help you process what you’ve been carrying.

My training includes coursework in Geriatric Counseling, Multicultural Counseling, Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis, and Professional Ethics. I integrate a person-centered and culturally responsive approach, while remaining grounded in ethical practice and careful case conceptualization under supervision.

In therapy with me, you can expect:

  • A space where your pain is not questioned or minimized

  • Thoughtful listening without rushing to “fix” you

  • Validation of the emotional impact of chronic illness or aging

  • Support navigating grief, identity shifts, loneliness, and systemic invalidation

  • Gentle exploration of coping tools that respect your physical realities

Aging, disability, and chronic conditions can reshape identity, relationships, and independence. Therapy can be a place to process those changes without shame, without dismissal, and without having to prove that your experience is real.

Outside of my clinical work, I value lifelong learning, meaningful connection, and contributing to spaces where people feel supported and respected.

You deserve a place where your pain is believed, your story matters, and you don’t have to fight to be understood. I would love to be that person for you.
