Niyah Patterson

Master of Social work - Clinical student intern

I believe that healing happens within a safe, supportive relationship where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered.

Hi, I’m Niyah! I am currently completing my clinical social work internship here at Therapy by the Bay LLC and look forward to supporting clients on their journey toward healing and growth. My passion is working with children, adolescents, adults, and families as they navigate life transitions, behavioral health challenges, stress, relationship concerns, and the lasting impact of generational trauma. I care deeply about helping clients understand their stories, build on their strengths, and begin creating new patterns of healing for themselves and their families.

My Background & Approach

My passion for helping others has been shaped by years of experience supporting individuals and families facing complex life challenges. Before entering clinical practice, I worked in community mental health, family services, and supportive housing programs, helping clients navigate behavioral health concerns, substance use challenges, housing instability, family stressors, and major life transitions. These experiences strengthened my commitment to meeting people where they are and honoring the resilience they bring to difficult circumstances.

My approach to therapy is compassionate, collaborative, trauma-informed, and client-centered. I believe many people carry experiences, beliefs, and survival patterns that were shaped not only by their own lives, but also by family systems, culture, community, and generational experiences. In therapy, I strive to create a nonjudgmental space where clients can explore these patterns, feel empowered in their healing, develop practical coping skills, and work toward meaningful, lasting change.

As a clinical social work intern, I am committed to ongoing learning and evidence-based practice, with particular interests in trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), generational trauma, emotional wellness, and supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families through life’s challenges and transitions.
